FRANK CARUSO commenced his show business career in North Bay, Ontario.
He studied accordion as a youngster, then switched to guitar and keyboards during his high school years.
Frank formed a folk trio called “The Frolickers” with Vicki Virgili and Paul Aultman and performed in many “hootenannies”, as they were called back then. They also appeared on local television, “The Vic Virgili Show” on numerous occasions.
In the summer of 1968 Frank opened “The Furnace Room”, a club which featured folk music during the week and rock bands on weekends. He booked many “soon-to-be” famous bands such as Edward Bear and many local groups featuring the talents of Paul Pruneau, Tim Clarke, Jake Thomas, John McGale and Breen LaBeuf, to name a few.
He organized and performed in many folk concerts and in 1968 booked Gordon Lightfoot into Memorial Gardens, where over 3,200 fans attended.
He then opened another entertainment hot-spot “The Carlo Club” on Cassells Street, and again featured many local singers and bands. Many present-day entertainers got their start in that venue.
In 1980, Frank founded his own theatre company “Caruso’s Cabaret “ and entertained local and
far-off audiences for years. Initially operating out of it’s own space on Lakeshore drive for three years, performing dozens of live theatre shows in the city. it featured many local actors and guest directors.
Caruso’s Cabaret then added a “touring Company” and performed throughout Ontario. Caruso’s Cabaret did three Summer seasons at Rainbow Theatre to sold-out audiences.
As an actor, Frank performed more than twenty lead roles in such classics as: The Odd Couple, Chapter Two, It Had to be You, Lovers and Other Strangers and Barefoot in the Park.
He has also acted in numerous feature films since re-locating to Toronto in the 1990’s.
As a veteran Director and Producer, Frank has forty-five stage plays, twelve feature films, and numerous commercials and video productions to his credit.
In 1990 Caruso’s Cabaret was renamed “Caruso Visual Productions” and branched off into feature film production.
Frank’s first feature film, No Angel, which he wrote, directed and produced, was the first feature film shot entirely in the City of North Bay, Ont.
It went on to air on:
* Arts & Entertainment (North America)
* Super Channel
* City T.V.
